About Michel's Jewellery
OVER 40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Michel is a qualified jeweller with over 40 years of experience in handmade & restoration of antique jewellery & gallery pieces. At 15 years old in Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, Michel began his jewellery career in the summer of 1970, joining his brother who is also in the trade. By 17 Michel’s love for the craft grew into something more than work during school break and he was fully committed to the trade. Michel gained both the foundations and experience from working at a goldsmithing company in Lebanon until 1977. Due to the war Michel relocated to Cyprus to continue working for his employer for another 4 years. Michel mastered the manufacturing copies of museum pieces and the art of traditional filigree techniques, a rare craft that few can do. He represented this company across many European countries including Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Germany. Michel opened the original Michel’s Jewellery store in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983 while maintaining his work connections in Cyprus. In 2000 Michel moved with his wife and children to one of Australia’s most recognisable cities, Melbourne. In Australia Michel worked for reputable jewellers and was able to combine modern Western designs with his experience in traditional techniques from Lebanon, the perfect appeal for all customers. After building a name for himself, Michel was ready to reopen Michel’s Jewellery’s doors to the Bendigo community in 2008.
Connection, creativity and a strong work ethic are at the core of Michel’s work and has been imperative in the organic success of his family business. Over the past 11 years, Michel’s Jewellery has grown from providing its services to a small local town, to now Australia wide without wavering its core values. Michel’s passion to design, repair and create beautiful unique pieces stems from his love of sentiment. Michel understands the strong connection to antique pieces no matter of their monetary value, and appreciates the future sentiment in every new piece handmade by him. Knowing this, each piece is carefully handcrafted and repaired with the utmost respect and love.
At 64, Michel continues to work as a master jeweller with the same passion as when he first started. He has shared his love of the trade with his daughter, who now works alongside him, learning from the years of experience he has gained. Together Michel and Maria run the shop and online store, working hard to provide the best services for their customers.
